Library Card Cabinet

Nothing quite has the old-time glamour of a library card cabinet. The whole style of most modern examples is similar to the old. Dark wood, brass handles and all of those draws neatly in a row below another row are so appealing to our senses. They bring back fond memories of being in the library as a child getting books with parents and listening to stories in reading group. Today, one can emulate those feelings by including styles of furniture that embrace a sense of nostalgia.

While most government libraries tend to just use the more office-like examples, you can inject some of that affluence into your own office or home library. Leslie Dame Enterprises has a wood, library, media cabinet for $300. If you’re wondering about its storage capacity, it can hold up to 456 CD’s! And it’s crafted in that dark wood style. The Cherry Road version is $979. This cabinet is more traditional in style and well worth the price but it lacks that library fell that gives it such a specific look.

The Faulkner cabinet is $800. This one has a traditional British feel to it. It’s quite Victorian and reminiscent of something you would have found during colonial times. One of the best at the moment is the Townhouse Library-styled Card cabinet. At $2,864 you could see why I might find it special. It is very big and has an exquisite, warm-brown finish. It would certainly compliment any home but could be quite a cumbersome piece of furniture to deal with, especially in a smaller space.

You could get an Oak Park card cabinet from Crate and Barrel for $700. This one is pretty small but will be practical in a home where space is a concern. It is also easily moveable which will benefit those who enjoy a change from time to time. You may also like the moveable card cabinets on wheels but those can become problematic in a household. It’s best to use those in an office as a break between two compartments or a floating item that can be given a new location when you need to get it out of the way.

The library card cabinet is a piece of furniture that has transcended through function and time to find a place in many modern homes. Why not allow it to make a statement in yours?  You don’t have to opt for a gigantic piece of furniture. Simply find one that suits your needs whether they are in the area of entertainment or in a more professional capacity. Oak furniture is always a good way to add character to your home.
