Cabinet Organization

If you have a cabinet you will have to consider cabinet organization. It doesn’t help that you’ve spent all this money buying yourself a beautiful cabinet for your home and then you end up having this messy thing in your home with all its contents in disarray. At the end of the day it, it defeats the purpose of having one at all. There are a number of things you can buy to help you do this but there are also inexpensive and effective ways to try and do it yourself.

You may find that you have some handy helpers around the house that you can use to separate its contents or to contain them. If you are planning on using the cabinet for one specific purpose you should still organize those books, CD’s or DVD’s in a way that will help you reach what you want as quickly as possible. If you are planning on having more than one type of item in the cabinet, the most visually appealing way to organize is to separate them. This will also simplify your search.

One of the best ways to do this is by using stoppers. The joy of stoppers is that you can use anything that will stand and stop the books or CD’s from falling over. This means that you have free range within your home. Try to be as creative as possible. Some of the things that work the best are small statues, rocks, or containers with things inside. Who would believe that you could place a small childhood token or some dried flowers in a jar and use them as a tool to make your cabinet look amazing and serve a purpose. They will do exactly that though.

There are cabinets where people have placed items into jars that actually relate to the reading material. For example, if you have a collection of books about music, you can place a harmonica, penny whistle or a metal Kazoo in a pickle jar, with the label peeled or soaked off. These instruments are inexpensive and will add a lot of character to the cabinet. If you are more of an animal lover, you could put a toy insect or hand-crafted insect into a jar. If you want to be a bit more extreme you could have the real thing in-between your books. Another great stopper idea is to have a rock which is as square as possible and put a sticker on it. Not all stickers have childish pictures.

If you want to use containers, try to opt for wood to stay with the image of the cabinet. Avoid plastic as this will detract from the aesthetic of the cabinet and look messy and cheap. Once you have tried it, you will find that cabinet organization will give you a sense of accomplishment and create something stunning for you to look at and have in your space. Treat the cabinet contents as you would any item or space in your home. Make sure that it stays tidy and dust regularly to prevent the cabinet from becoming stuffy.
